When nearfield monitors reach their limits in the low-bass range, a subwoofer helps you assess low-frequency content more accurately while mixing. The active 12-inch subwoofer with Kevlar woofer KRK V12S is designed to complement the V6 and V8 monitors and can be matched to the monitoring system via its adjustable crossover.

Balanced XLR inputs and outputs are provided for the left and right signals. The outputs pass the signal on to the main monitors with a fixed 80 Hz high-pass filter. This allows the V12S to be integrated into the signal path between a mixing desk or audio interface and the monitors.

The variable low-pass filter can be set between 50 and 130 Hz, while the gain control adjusts the subwoofer level. The phase switch lets you choose between 0° and 180° to match the setup to the placement and other monitors. A footswitch connection for the Low Frequency Defeat function allows you to compare the sound with and without the subwoofer; the footswitch is not listed as included.

For operation, you can choose between manual power-on and automatic signal activation. In automatic mode, the unit switches on when a signal is present and switches off again after 20 minutes without a signal. A protection circuit limits the effects of overloading; the limiter can be switched off.

With XLR integration, an adjustable low-pass filter and switchable phase, the KRK V12S is suited to studio monitoring setups that need to extend the bass range. As a complement to KRK V6 and V8 monitors, it provides the filter functions required to tune the system and is also suitable for other monitor setups with compatible XLR cable connections.
