A 10-inch woofer in a three-way monitor can handle deep bass and high levels, while a dedicated midrange driver reproduces vocals and key mix details. The KRK RP10-3 is an active studio monitor for nearfield and midfield applications with dedicated midrange reproduction. Its rotatable midrange and tweeter assembly helps you align the acoustic axis for different placement orientations.

The woofer and midrange driver use glass-aramid composite diaphragms; a 1-inch neodymium textile tweeter handles the high frequencies. The 140-watt RMS tri-amp amplification divides the power across the three ways: 80 watts for the low frequencies and 30 watts each for the midrange and high frequencies. This means each driver is amplified separately.

As a midfield monitor, this model is designed for listening distances of around one to four metres; the ideal distance may vary depending on room size, geometry and placement. It can also be used in the nearfield. The midrange and high-frequency section, which rotates through 90 degrees, keeps these drivers correctly aligned in vertical or horizontal placement and also supports wall mounting. To change the orientation, rotate the assembly.

The rounded front design reduces cabinet reflections. A front-facing slot port makes placement close to a wall easier. On the rear, you can adjust the high and low frequencies to suit the room; the level controls each offer several settings. The volume control ranges from −30 to +6 dB, allowing you to match the monitor to your setup’s signal level.

The XLR and 6.3 mm jack inputs accept balanced signals, while the RCA input is designed for unbalanced connections. This makes the monitor suitable for a range of analogue audio sources. With 140 watts of total power and three types of input, the RP10-3 is suitable for home and project studios, as well as studio setups where nearfield or midfield monitoring and flexible placement are required.
