KRK Rokit 5 G4 Review - What Can the New KRK Studio Monitors Do?

The KRK Rokit 5 G4 speakers are budget monitors with 5″ woofers for DJs/producers that feature integrated digital room correction. They continue to hit the elusive balance between good sound and good value for money.

If you're a DJ or music producer looking for a new pair of studio monitors or your first pair and have a limited budget, the latest Rokits are a solid choice.

First Impressions / Build

The studio monitors of the Rokit series by KRK, which have become iconic for their black/yellow color scheme, stand for good sound quality at an affordable price. Pairs of various KRK Rokit models are now found in thousands of home studios. Recently, KRK refreshed the Rokit G4 series with an updated look and some cool new features.

KRK ROKIT 5 G4 Rear ViewAt first glance, the exterior of the new Rokit G4 looks very similar to previous Rokit models, but upon closer inspection, differences become apparent. The overall appearance has been modernized giving it a sleeker and more professional look.

Turning to the actual speaker, we see the most significant physical difference with the updated Rokits. KRK has opted to switch to a Kevlar material for the tweeter and woofer. KRK confirmed to us that this new material offers improved sound reproduction while also being more durable.

However, the most exciting update to these Rokit studio monitors can be found on the back. KRK has added an LCD screen for visual room correction EQs and settings adjustments. In previous generations of Rokits, KRK used separate physical buttons to operate the room EQing for room correction. These have now been replaced by a single knob and an LCD screen. This is practical as you can now see a visual representation of the changes you're making to the sound.

In Use

KRK ROKIT 5 G4 Side ViewThe most important thing about any studio monitor is how it sounds, and the KRK Rokit G4 doesn't disappoint. This latest update continues the tradition of the Rokit, being a monitor that might not be the most accurate, but sounds great and just plain fun. They sound full and warm in the lower end, especially for the size, have a clean midrange, and a clear upper-end spectrum.

However, the highs are the weak point, where you can notice the lack of precision of the Rokit: although they're clear, they simply don't deliver the same details you can find in other studio monitors. At the same time, this helps the Rokit G4 never sound too shrill and can be listened to for hours without tiring the ears.

This is actually an advantage for most DJs, as it makes long practice sessions for the ears easier and at the same time provides a clear and fairly accurate representation of your sound. Although they're not the most accurate, they're still great studio monitors, with which you can make wonderful music.

Conclusion

KRK has continued the iconic line of its Rokit studio monitors by updating its appearance and adding useful features. The Rokits remain a compromise between decent sound and great value for money. If you're a DJ or producer looking for a new pair or your first pair of studio monitors and have a budget, the latest Rokits are a good choice.
