KRK GO AUX 3 & 4 in Product Preview

The iconic yellow speakers from KRK are among the most popular studio monitors and are particularly favored by DJs because they offer a slightly more bass-heavy reproduction compared to their flat-tuned competitors, such as those from Yamaha. They are capable of reproducing frequencies that are crucial in electronic music production, such as the lower spectrum of kicks and even the powerful deep sub-bass sounds.

Once accustomed to a specific setup in one's studio, one prefers to work with the same setup, no matter where they are. It's not uncommon for tracks to be recorded in hotel rooms, airplanes, or on the go, and sometimes one might feel more inspired to work in their garden.

While much of the work can be done with headphones, ears can tire after long sessions. Therefore, it can be a good idea to at least do some of the work with speakers, especially if one wants to share their new creations with others and ask for their opinion.

Enter the KRK GO AUX 3 and the KRK GO AUX 4. These new compact and lightweight speakers (3.15 kg for the AUX3 and 4.3 kg for the AUX4) are the ideal tool when one doesn't have the conveniences of a studio on the go. They come with a travel-friendly soft case that enables easy and secure transport and quick setup. Also included are two adjustable stands to align the sound to your ears.

Though Bluetooth connectivity comes with compromises in sound quality, it's very advantageous that it has been added. However, both models continue to have asymmetric RCA connections, and the AUX 4 also has balanced jack inputs.

With built-in LF and HF EQ, adjustments can be made when speakers cannot be positioned properly and unwanted bass noises or too high frequencies occur when positioned very close to the ears. The AUX 4 even features Auto ARC (Automatic Room Correction), a function that measures environmental feedback via a built-in microphone and optimizes the sound accordingly.

This function may not always be sensible, or you may want to make additional settings since the function is not always precise, but it can be a good starting point. For additional settings, you can use the KRK Audio Tools Mobile App, which helps to properly align the monitors and provide EQ recommendations. It is important to note that both pairs of speakers are rear-oriented due to their limited size. If possible, you should position them at least 25 cm away from walls.

Both speakers are equipped with a 1-inch tweeter and a 3-inch woofer for AUX 3 and a 4-inch woofer for AUX 4.

Is this enough to achieve the precision of a real studio?
Certainly not, but are they better than most other cheap portable speakers? Definitely.

On paper, they are capable of reproducing frequencies from 60 to 22,000 Hz, but they do not offer real precision at these extremes. Therefore, one should not expect accurate reproduction of deep bass lines, but they can give an idea of how the mix will sound on a pair of speakers and they probably offer better value for money than most portable speakers available in audio stores.

While the latter are designed for general purposes and occasional listening, the KRK GO is optimized for music producers, and this definitely makes a difference.

Since there is not a significant price difference (50 € extra for AUX4), size and portability are likely to be the main factor in your decision. The AUX3 is more than 1 kg lighter and smaller in every direction by 2-3 centimeters.

So, anyone who wants to use it constantly on the go may prefer a smaller size and lighter weight, but should sacrifice the additional inch of woofer size and additional features like balanced input and ARC.

In any case, the monitors are a great addition to any portable studio, even if used only occasionally, as they are very similar to the typical KRK sound and design.
