Korg Volca Mix in Product Presentation

Korg's Volca hardware has always been very popular among producers. The Volca Bass, FM, Keys, Sample, and Synth have all been designed to be portable yet still sound fat and powerful analog. Rumors circulated about Korg possibly manufacturing a Volca mixer to connect the Volca series together. For NAMM, the company announces Volca Mix, an analog mixer that completes the Volca family.

Volca Mix is an analog mixer with four channels: two mono inputs, one stereo input, and an auxiliary input jack for send/receive connections. Each of these inputs (except the auxiliary input) has its own filter (Low/High Cut), send volume, and mute controls. Integrated into the device is an analog stereo expander/compressor with sidechain to boost the master out signal. The aux channel can be used for external effects or as a fourth audio channel for another device.

All sound is routed to the RCA line out, the 3.5mm headphone jack, and the stereo speakers at the bottom corners of the device (which can be switched off). Each Volca Mix comes with three audio cables.

Volca Mix is also capable of synchronizing other devices using the master clock with Sync-Out. Additionally, the device features three DC output jacks to power other Korg devices and comes with an AC adapter and three DC cables. Performers can power three other devices using a DC power supply that comes with the Volca Mix.

With a street price of around €170, the Korg Volca Mix offers a simple yet extremely dynamic way to control and mix sounds from other hardware. While there are certainly cheaper, compact mixers available, the analog circuits and mastering effects of the Volca Mix make the investment worthwhile. The Korg Volca Mix is a relatively affordable solution for musicians looking to streamline the setup and breakdown process with a powerful, lush-sounding, and easy-to-use mixer.
