For playing software instruments and directly controlling a DAW, the Korg USB Taktile 49 combines a velocity-sensitive keyboard with knobs, pads and transport buttons. The 49 lightly weighted keys are suitable for playing parts; aftertouch is not supported.

The touchpad operates in three modes: in Touch Scale mode, you play melodies along a scale; Control mode controls assigned parameters; and Track Pad mode can be used as a mousepad. The 16 velocity-sensitive trigger pads play chords in a selectable key and scale. The arpeggiator adds six types and 50 rhythm patterns.

For DAW control, eight switches, eight sliders and eight rotary knobs are available. They can be assigned as multipurpose controllers, for example for mixer functions or software synthesisers. Seven separate transport buttons control markers, fast-forward, rewind, playback, stop, recording and cycle. Pitch bend and assignable wheels, along with octave buttons, complete the playing aids.

Connect the keyboard to your computer via USB Type B; it is also powered via the USB bus. MIDI inputs and outputs allow you to connect additional MIDI devices. There are also sockets for an assignable switch and a pedal. Half-damper pedals are not supported. The controls are designed for MIDI-compatible DAWs and sequencers and can be used after a brief setup.

The 128 x 64-dot OEL display shows settings and status information. The package includes a USB cable, an operating manual and a KORG bundle software PIN card. This makes the keyboard suitable for computer-based production setups where you want to use keys, pads and assignable controls on one surface.
