Koolsound TDJ-10 USB

If you want to record vinyl directly on your computer while also playing records the traditional way through a hi-fi system or mixer, the Koolsound TDJ-10 USB combines both options in one turntable. Its USB connection for digitising vinyl sends the audio signal to your computer; you’ll need suitable audio software there to make recordings.

According to the operating instructions, the computer recognises the device as an audio source; no separate driver installation is required. The turntable can be used with PC and Mac. You can use an audio recording programme to record and edit. Exporting as MP3 is done using the relevant software; depending on the programme, an additional MP3 encoder may be required.

Stereo RCA outputs are available for connecting to a hi-fi system or mixer. Use the Phono/Line switch to select the appropriate output level: Line is suitable for a line or AUX input, while Phono is for a phono input. An integrated preamp adjusts the signal for line operation.

The belt drive supports 33, 45 and 78 rpm. Use the pitch control to adjust the speed by up to ±10%; Reverse changes the direction of rotation. A separate Motor-Off button stops the motor and can be pressed again to restart it. The two Start/Stop buttons are duplicated so you can operate the turntable when it is rotated by 90 degrees into battle position.

The S-shaped tonearm has a removable headshell with a cartridge fitted. Anti-skating from 0 to 4 grams can be adjusted to match the tracking force. A removable LED illuminates the stylus area to make precise cueing easier. The aluminium platter measures 330 mm.

With USB recording, a Phono/Line output, three playback speeds and pitch control, this model is suited to a setup where you want to play vinyl and archive it on your computer. The RCA outputs also allow you to connect it to a hi-fi system or mixer; the duplicated Start/Stop controls support operation when the turntable is set up rotated by 90 degrees.
