JB-Systems MSD-900

When two SD card players and a compact mixer need to work together in one unit, the integrated 2-channel mixer keeps the setup clear. The JB-Systems MSD 900 plays MP3 files from SD cards and can be connected directly to an amplifier or active speakers. If required, you can route the player outputs separately to an external mixer.

Both decks can read the same SD card simultaneously; while one deck is playing, you can change the card in the unused deck. SD cards up to 4 GB per slot are supported. The alphanumeric LCD displays ID3V2 information such as title, artist, genre and bitrate. Track search offers a Folder mode, limited to one folder, and a Track mode for the entire card. Nested subfolders are not supported.

Cue and loop functions are available for transitions and interventions during playback: you can set cue points during playback, save up to four Hot Cues per track and create seamless loops. Start and end points can be edited in real time; Reloop recalls a loop and can be used for stutter effects. An automatic beat counter with TAP function, Auto Cue at −48 dB and frame search in 1/75-second steps support navigation.

You can adjust the speed in pitch ranges of ±4 %, ±8 %, ±16 % or +16 %/−100 %. Pitch Lock keeps the pitch constant while the tempo changes; the jog wheel handles pitch bend and fine positioning during paused playback. For playback, you can select single or continuous play, random playback, and the display of elapsed or remaining time.

The internal mixer provides Gain, digital high- and low-frequency controls, and VCA channel faders for each channel. The removable VCA crossfader supports Fader Start. You can monitor and mix the cue signal and master signal through the headphones; a volume control is integrated. Fader Start can also be used via external inputs.

Depending on your setup, the unit operates with the internal mixer, with two separate outputs including tone controls, or with two separate outputs without tone controls. This allows the operating mode to adapt to the signal path: in internal mixer mode, the mixed output goes to an amplifier or active speakers; in the other two modes, the players are routed separately to an external mixer. Firmware updates are possible using downloaded files.

The MSD 900 is suitable for DJ setups that need to combine MP3 playback from SD cards, basic mixing functions and cue/loop interventions in one unit. Rack-compatible 19-inch format, selectable output modes and separate player outputs also make it suitable for installations with an external mixer.
