When programming drum parts, direct access to multiple trigger surfaces matters, without taking up much space on the desk. The white ICON iPad is a compact USB MIDI controller with twelve velocity-sensitive pads that send MIDI notes or control data. An X/Y touchpad and an assignable fader add further control options to the pads.

The pads respond to playing strength and can be tailored to your playing style using four velocity curves. Press the Artist button to switch between four storable scenes, each of which can store different MIDI assignments for the controls. This provides suitable assignments for different applications, depending on the selected scene.

The X/Y touchpad and MIDI fader can control assigned parameters in compatible software. The fader is suitable for MIDI CC values such as volume; the touchpad can control two axes of a supported software parameter. The Hold and Roll buttons add functions for sustaining and repeating notes to the pad controls. Using Hold and Roll together triggers a flam effect.

Via USB, the controller sends MIDI data to the computer and also receives its power supply. A second USB port is used for daisy-chaining with iKey and iControls from the ICON i-Series. The MIDI functions can be assigned using the iMap software; the device is class-compliant with Windows XP, Windows Vista (32-bit) and Mac OS X.

With its slim profile and white finish, the device fits into a space-saving setup at your computer or on a mobile production workstation. It is suitable for drum programming, triggering tasks and MIDI control when you want to use twelve velocity-sensitive pads with a touchpad and fader in a compact controller.
