When a top speaker is to be used without a separate power amplifier, the loudspeaker and amplification need to work together in one cabinet. The HK Audio L5 115 FA is an active 15-inch full-range loudspeaker for use as a top speaker, stand-alone system or DJ monitor. Its 1000 W Class D power amplifier is bi-amped and drives the low/mid-frequency and high-frequency drivers separately.

The asymmetrical, rotatable CD horn provides horizontal dispersion of 60° to 90°, depending on its orientation, and vertical dispersion of 55°. This lets you adjust the wider coverage in the front area to suit the desired sound direction. The dispersion angle becomes narrower with increasing distance, helping to extend the range.

Two separate XLR inputs with their own gain controls accept the input signals; input A can be switched between microphone and line level. You can route signals onwards via the two XLR Thru outputs, while the XLR Mix Out outputs the mixed input signals. The EQ switch selects between High Power and Small Venue, to suit the sound pressure level and room size.

The DuoTilt flange with 3° and 7° tilt is designed for use on a stand or distance pole. The two integrated handles make it easier to move; three M8 points are provided for mounting. The hybrid cabinet, made from birch plywood and MDF, is protected by a 2 mm metal grille with black acoustic foam. DuoTilt 3/7 offers two fixed tilt angles for positioning.

The 15-inch low/mid-frequency driver with a 3-inch voice coil and the 1-inch compression driver with a 1.75-inch voice coil operate with an active crossover at 1.65 kHz. A 24 dB/octave subsonic filter and a peak limiter protect the loudspeakers; the power amplifier has undervoltage, thermal, short-circuit and overcurrent protection. Separate amplifier channels for low/mid and high frequencies deliver 650 and 350 watts respectively.

With its combination of active amplification, separate inputs and rotatable horn, this loudspeaker is suited to DJ setups, monitoring and sound reinforcement tasks where a single top speaker is used. The cabinet can be integrated via the stand flange or M8 points; weight and dimensions should also be taken into account when making your selection.
