When a PA system needs to deliver more deep bass with bass-heavy programme material, the subwoofer needs to be acoustically and electrically compatible with the tops in use. The active HK Audio L Sub 2000 A is designed to complement LINEAR 5 mid/high-range speakers and uses two 12-inch long-excursion speakers in a double-folded 6th-order bandpass enclosure. Its specified usable frequency range is 50 to 120 Hz.

The integrated 1200 W Class D power amplifier drives both speakers. You can choose between 100 and 120 Hz on the active crossover; the slope is 24 dB per octave. Two balanced XLR mid/high outputs let you send the filtered signal to active tops. The 180-degree phase inversion helps you match the subwoofer to other speakers; the 0-degree setting is intended for LINEAR 5 mid/high-range speakers.

The signal path provides two XLR/jack combo sockets as inputs, as well as two parallel XLR Thru outputs. This lets you pass the input signal through while the mid/high outputs send the high-pass-filtered signal to the tops. Input sensitivity is +4 dBu with the gain set to the centre position. A peak limiter and a subsonic filter with a slope of 24 dB per octave provide additional overload protection; further protection circuits guard against undervoltage, overheating, short circuits and overcurrent.

The enclosure is made from multi-ply birch plywood with a wall thickness of 15 or 18 mm and is finished with black acrylic paint. A 2 mm metal grille protects the front. Four integrated MultiGrip handles make handling easier; an M20 pole flange accommodates a distance pole. Weighing 47.5 kg and with its dimensions, the subwoofer is designed for stationary use and transport as part of a sound reinforcement setup.

The L Sub 2000 A suits sound reinforcement systems that require an active bass speaker with a selectable crossover frequency, filtered outputs and a loop-through input signal. Its tuning for LINEAR 5 tops, its connection options and its robust enclosure are the key considerations when integrating it into your PA system.
