Hercules DJ Mixing Console MK2

When DJing digitally, the next track should be ready in your headphones while the current mix plays through the sound system. The Hercules DJ Console MK2 combines DJ control and an audio interface in one USB device: you control two decks, preview tracks and output the mix via separate outputs.

The two deck sections each control one deck in the DJ software. Jog wheels, a crossfader and bass, midrange and treble controls affect the programme as it plays; you can adjust the tempo using the pitch controls. You can set cue points and loops during playback, scratch tracks and match their BPM for transitions. The functions assigned to individual controls depend on the software you use.

Use the source selection buttons to switch the decks between computer audio and external signals. For example, you can connect turntables or line-level sources such as CD and MP3 players to the two rear stereo RCA input pairs. Select the appropriate phono mode for turntables. The microphone input shares channel 1/2 with the corresponding input; both sources cannot be used at the same time there. A microphone level control and Talkover button are available for announcements.

For previewing, you can select deck A, deck B or the main mix for your headphones on the unit. Two stereo output pairs are available for speakers or an external mixer, each via RCA or a mini-jack. The 5.1 output uses the analogue outputs; for DJ use, you can also use the separate stereo outputs for the main signal and monitoring.

The console operates with 16-bit sampling at 48 kHz and 24-bit ADC/DAC. In addition to the analogue connections, it has digital optical and coaxial inputs and outputs, as well as MIDI In/Out. As a MIDI controller, the device can send commands to compatible software; the included Softmapper software is used to assign functions for digital applications.

The unit is powered via USB, so no power supply is required; an optional power adapter can be used. The protective cover protects the control surface during transport and can also be used as an angled stand. A carrying strap is also included, and phosphorescent buttons make the controls easier to identify in low light.

The software package listed includes special DJ editions of Traktor DJ Studio and Virtual DJ, as well as New DJ SE, Ots CD Scratch 1200, OtsDJ Demo and Storm 2.0 DJ Edition. The DJ Console MK2 suits a computer-based setup if you want to control two decks directly, connect external sources and use the headphone path separately.
