Gemini CDMP-2700

There is little space in the rack for separate players, controllers, and media connections. The Gemini CDMP-2700 bundles DJ control into a 2U unit and the dual CD drive into a separate 1U unit. Two touch-sensitive decks with TFT touch displays and jogwheels give you direct access to tracks and playback functions.

The player reads audio CDs, CD-Rs, and MP3 CDs as well as MP3, AAC, WAV, and AIFF files from USB storage devices and SD cards. Each deck features one USB port and one SD card slot; SDHC cards are supported up to 32 GB. You can navigate through folders and tracks and adjust tempo and effect values via the touchscreens. Multiple media sources per deck make it possible to use CDs and digital music archives.

Depending on the selected mode, the jogwheels can be used for searching, pitch bending, scratching, and reverse. For precise transitions, there are three programmable hot cues, a BPM counter with auto, tap, and lock functions, as well as seamless loop with reloop and loop adjustment. Searching can be performed frame-accurately via the jogwheel or buttons. Six DSP effects – filter, flanger, echo, wah, trance, and bubble – complement the deck control.

Via USB, the device can be connected to a PC or Mac and used as a MIDI controller for music software. The audio interface supports up to 24-bit and 192 kHz; stereo RCA and digital S/PDIF outputs are available for audio output. MIDI control and audio transmission via USB thus complement the standalone media operation. A RAM buffer protects playback from short vibrations.

The pitch control offers selectable ranges of ±4, ±8, ±16, ±24, ±50, or ±100 percent; master tempo is also available. Both units are designed for a 19-inch rack. The separate 2U/1U format fits DJ racks where CD playback, digital media, and software control are intended to come together.
