Faderfox FT3

Four decks can be controlled with a compact MIDI controller when the most important mixer and transport functions need to be directly accessible. The Faderfox FT3 combines four channel faders and a crossfader with controls for cue, pitch, effects, loops, filter, EQ and browser.

The four multifunction encoders can be switched between six groups for deck, global and effects functions. Four additional encoders handle EQ, filter and effect assignments; their push function can be used to centre EQ settings. A dedicated browser encoder controls track selection and can be used to scroll through clips in Ableton Live's Session View.

Four FX slots are available for effect control. You can select and assign effects using the knobs and buttons; snapshot functions are also included. The controller sends around 250 freely assignable commands. All controls have a second function, which you call up by holding down the Shift button.

The 20 coloured buttons and 25 multicoloured LEDs help you stay oriented while mixing. Software feedback indicates, among other things, Play, Sync, Select and FX assignment states. The faders, rotary controls and encoders are made by ALPS; the housing is black, and the front panel is made of silver-coloured aluminium with an anodised finish.

The FT3 is optimised for Native Instruments Traktor Pro/Duo version 1.2.4 and later, and Ableton Live version 8.1.1 and later; matching setup files are provided. It also works with other software, provided it supports MIDI CC and note commands. The USB interface is class-compliant and requires no driver. A PC or Mac with a USB port version 1.0 or later is sufficient; alternatively, you can use a USB hub. Power is supplied via USB.

With its desktop format and weight of 350 g, the controller fits into compact DJ setups where four software decks need to be controlled using a single device.
