Electro Voice SB122-W

When compact full-range speakers need support in the bass range, a passive subwoofer can extend the system in a targeted way. The white Electro-Voice SB 122-W is equipped with a 12-inch driver and designed to complement EV SX and ZX speaker systems. Despite weighing 15 kg, it handles 400 W continuous power and 1,600 W peak power.

The long-excursion EVS12SB driver operates in a composite enclosure with a large bass reflex port. The integrated low-pass filter allows parallel operation with a full-range speaker without the need for an additional external filter. A 40 Hz high-pass filter is recommended to protect the full-range system when connected this way.

The internal filter can also be used in a bi-amp setup: below 160 Hz, it remains transparent, so the subwoofer does not need to be disabled separately. The recommended crossover range is 80 to 160 Hz. The two parallel NL4 Speakon connectors pass the signal on; a suitable power amplifier is required for passive operation.

For setup, the enclosure has a top-mounted pole socket, to which a small full-range speaker such as the Zx1 or Sx80 can be mounted using the optional ASP-1. According to the mounting instructions, pole mounting is limited to speakers of this size. An integrated carry handle makes transport easier; the white enclosure is fitted with a half-height front grille and grille cloth.

With its low weight, parallel Speakon connectors and internal low-pass filter, the SB 122-W is suitable for compact mobile PA systems and compatible EV SX or ZX setups. Passive drive, the intended crossover range and the recommended high-pass filter for parallel operation are key considerations when planning the system.
