Dynacord Power Max 230

When full-range speakers and subwoofers are amplified separately, the signal must be distributed appropriately to the power amplifiers. The Dynacord PowerMax 230 is an active loudspeaker controller for such 2-way stereo systems with mono subwoofer. Its PowerMax12 crossover function is designed for the crossover region between the subwoofer and compact full-range speakers.

The crossover frequency can be set between 45 and 160 Hz. An additional Lo-Cut filter removes low frequencies at 12 dB per octave; its cut-off frequency can be adjusted from 20 to 100 Hz. These settings help you adapt the signal distribution to your speakers and application. The controller processes the signal at line level and feeds it to separate power amplifiers for the speaker channels.

Three adjustable EQ functions are available for sound shaping: the LO-EQ operates as a shelving filter at 50 Hz and can be boosted from 0 to +12 dB. With the MID-EQ, you can cut the range around 4 kHz by up to 8 dB, for example to adjust the presence of a horn. The HI-EQ boosts the range around 15 kHz by up to 8 dB when required. This separate adjustment of bass, mids and treble is made using the controls on the front panel.

Inputs A and B are actively balanced and each has a parallel XLR output for passing through the input signal. The separate HI and LO outputs carry the stereo signals for the full-range and subwoofer power amplifiers respectively; SUB also provides the mono sum of the two LO signals. All inputs and outputs use XLR connections. Balanced XLR connections make it easier to integrate the controller into professional PA and instrument setups.

With a 19-inch width and one rack unit of height, the controller fits in a rack. The power supply is designed for 50 to 60 Hz; the voltage range can be switched between 100–120 V and 220–240 V. An optional input transformer is available as an accessory. For active systems with stereo full-range speakers and subwoofers, the model offers adjustable crossover and EQ functions, as well as clearly defined signal distribution.
