DJ Vinyl Cases
The DJ case, record case, or vinyl case is an essential part of every vinyl DJ's setup. It's indispensable to purchase a suitable DJ case for transporting the numerous records. Additionally, using a professional vinyl case instead of a simple record crate from the hardware store is considered good style. Besides transporting records, there are also many other uses for these cases.
Some use them to transport equipment and accessories along with LPs. However, more commonly, the DJ case is used for storing and archiving the home record collection. There are various models available in different sizes, colors, and designs that you can purchase from our store.
What Material Should My New DJ Case Be Made Of?
Your new DJ case should not be made of plastic, as vinyl records are relatively heavy. A record case can hold between 50 and 120 LPs, which means a weight between 10 and 25 kg. For cases that hold up to 80 LPs, it's okay if the handle is made of high-quality plastic, but for larger cases, the handle should be made of metal.
The frame should always be made of metal or aluminum, and the filler plates should be made of wood or metal. A wooden record case is the most stable option but is also slightly more expensive and, of course, heavier than an aluminum DJ case. High-quality wooden record cases are made of MDF in the economical version and plywood in the best version. Plywood cases are lighter and very sturdy.
What Equipment Features Should I Consider When Buying My Record Case?
In addition to the exterior material (described above), it's important to pay attention to some other features that distinguish your new DJ case if you want to buy it from our store. It's particularly important that, especially for larger record cases, they have a removable lid, as the lid of larger cases is often perceived as bothersome and tends to be set aside. For smaller DJ cases, however, it's less obstructive, and therefore the lid is usually fixedly mounted.
The choice of handle(s) is also crucial depending on the size of the record case. For smaller record crates, one handle is sufficient and is always mounted on the top. Larger record cases are more comfortable to carry in pairs, so it's advantageous if the record case has 2 side handles. Ideally, the large DJ case should have 3 handles, one on the top and 2 side handles.
Another feature is the lock. There are also different versions here, adapted to the structure. The butterfly lock is the most elegant. However, for heavier loads, it's less recommended, or you can use 2 to distribute the weight. The lock should always be lockable so that the contents, i.e., your vinyl records, are safe, and no outsider can access the LPs. Locks that can be locked with a padlock are the best because if the lock is damaged (or if you forget the number), it can be easily replaced.
What Sizes of Record Cases Are Available for Purchase?
DJ record cases are available in sizes ranging from 50 to 120 vinyl records. Depending on your needs and usage, the optimal size is available in our store. If the record case is primarily intended for storing records, it might be useful to check if the DJ cases are stackable. Especially if you own a large number of vinyl records and want to store them.
There are general differences in record cases regarding the division of the base and the lid. There are classic versions with a smaller lid and, in some cases, very practical versions with equally sized halves, called a 50/50 split. This allows part of the records to be placed in the inverted lid when the record case is open and the lid is turned over. As a result, the records are stored more loosely and are easier to fan out. This improves visibility. Angled versions with a sloping edge further enhance access and visibility.
Which DJ Cases Are Particularly Suitable for Archiving Vinyl Records?
Stackable cases with recessed handles are particularly suitable for archiving larger quantities of records. For smaller quantities, all DJ cases are equally suitable, and it's more a matter of personal preference here. The record shelves and LP boxes offered in our shop are also very suitable for storing records. However, the vinyl records are not protected against dust and sunlight here, as is the case with a record case.

What advantages does a record case have over a record bag?
Naturally, record bags are also very suitable for transporting and storing records. However, there are a few differences to consider here. The advantage of the record bag is that firstly, it has less weight of its own and is therefore generally easier to carry than a case, and secondly, in most cases, the DJ bag also has a shoulder strap, which also makes transportation more pleasant.
For storing records, we see the record case as having the advantage, as the vinyl records are better protected, there are better stacking options, and the outer sides are easier to clean. Record bags tend to accumulate dust and can quickly look untidy. Another advantage of the DJ case is that the records are much more securely protected against theft. A record bag can be easily opened, torn, or cut open (unfortunately, this happens repeatedly).
Does a record case protect my vinyl from sunlight and heat?
Yes, the additional shell of the case keeps a certain amount of heat and sunlight away. The records are less exposed to heat and are not damaged as quickly. However, anyone who leaves their valuable vinyl records in the car during the summer runs the risk of the heat deforming the vinyl. Even though the record case offers some protection, we would advise against risking direct sunlight exposure for extended periods. Once the records are deformed, the problem is significant, and only a record flattener like the one we have, for example, from the ORB brand, can help. However, purchasing such a flattener is associated with a certain investment and is always only the second-best choice.
Are there record cases with wheels? A record trolley?
Of course, record bags are also very suitable for transporting and storing records. However, there are a few differences to consider here. The advantage of the record bag is that firstly, it has less weight of its own and is therefore generally easier to carry than a case, and secondly, in most cases, the DJ bag also has a shoulder strap, which makes transportation equally pleasant.

Can you build a DJ case yourself?
Yes, of course, you can also build a DJ case yourself. However, the effort required is certainly enormous, and in the end, the DIY construction will probably be more expensive than a pre-configured DJ case. Success in DIY construction also requires some manual skill. A carpenter or metalworker can certainly be helpful. Building a DJ case yourself only makes sense if you need a special size or design that is not available on the market. However, it is often worthwhile to simply ask us if we can offer a solution for your needs, as we are one of the largest suppliers worldwide and have various options in our factories.
Summary
The DJ case or record case is an integral part of DJ life and also a helpful tool for any vinyl enthusiast. Particularly for storing records, the record case offers many advantages. In our shop, you'll find a globally unique range of record cases and record bags to buy, naturally available in all conceivable colors, sizes, and designs.
