Crown XLS-802 D

With passive PA speakers, the right amplifier power and operating mode are essential. The Crown XLS-802 D is an analogue two-channel amplifier for PA systems that can be operated in stereo or bridge-mono mode. It provides 800 watts per channel at 4 ohms.

In stereo mode, the amplifier powers two separate speaker channels; you adjust the levels using two detented rotary controls on the front panel. To use bridge-mono mode, switch modes using the selector on the rear panel. In this mode, the unit delivers 1,600 watts into an 8-ohm load. When choosing speakers, observe the permitted impedances: 4 to 8 ohms per channel in stereo mode and 8 ohms in bridge mode.

For connection, balanced XLR inputs are available on the rear panel, one per channel. The outputs comprise two four-pole Speakon sockets and one pair of binding posts per channel. The upper Speakon socket can also be used for bridge mode. Signal, Clip and Fault LEDs indicate the channel status; a separate Power LED indicates when the unit is switched on.

A rear-panel circuit breaker and internal protection functions safeguard operation against overload, DC voltage and thermal stress. Cooling is provided by fans, with air flowing through the case from front to back. When installing the unit in a rack, allow for unobstructed airflow and keep the ventilation openings clear.

The robust steel case is designed for a 19-inch rack with 2 rack units. With XLR inputs, Speakon or binding-post connections, and selectable stereo or bridge mode, the amplifier is suitable for mobile and fixed PA setups where the power and speaker impedance are matched to the system.
