CME M-Key

When programming MIDI parameters directly on the keyboard, additional controls are useful. The CME M-Key combines a 49-key keyboard with freely assignable controllers: the joystick, slider, buttons and pedal connections can send their own MIDI commands. Use the function keys on the keyboard to enter and confirm values without needing a separate editor.

The velocity-sensitive, semi-weighted Full Action keyboard responds to how hard you play. With four velocity curves, you can adjust the response to your touch and the instrument in question. By default, the DATA buttons change the octave; the SHIFT function also lets you transpose the keyboard in semitone steps. Other keyboard shortcuts are used for numerical entry and confirming with Enter, among other functions.

By default, the X/Y joystick controls pitch bend and modulation; its functions can also be assigned. The slider sends volume by default, but can also transmit other MIDI data. Both pedal connections are designed for switch or expression pedals and can be assigned separately. You can use the pedals to control sustain or volume, for example; the pedal type and polarity are adjustable.

To connect to a computer, the M-Key uses USB MIDI with bus power. Alternatively, you can use an optional 9 V, 500 mA power supply. An additional 5-pin MIDI output connects the keyboard to external MIDI devices. The device is class-compliant; supported systems are listed as Windows XP, Vista and 7, as well as Mac OS X.

The included MusicPack comprises Arturia Analog Factory SE, 4Front True Pianos, KeyToSound Remedy and the Musicator Win MW5 UF Edition. With its compact format, programmable controls and USB and MIDI connections, the M-Key is suitable for computer-based setups and external MIDI devices if you are looking for a velocity-sensitive 49-key keyboard with direct parameter control.
