Product description Behringer SD8

When microphones and instruments are connected on stage while the mix is created at the FOH position, a digital stagebox keeps the connections between the two areas organised. The Behringer SD8 combines eight remotely controlled MIDAS preamps, eight analogue outputs and AES50 network connections in a compact housing.

The eight balanced XLR/TRS combo inputs accept microphone and line signals. You can connect instruments with a high input level, such as a guitar or bass, directly to channels 7 and 8. The connected mixer controls the preamp gain and switchable 48 V phantom power, so you can position the inputs on stage and make the settings from FOH.

The connection to the mixer runs via AES50 and a shielded CAT5e cable. The two AES50 ports let you daisy-chain additional compatible stageboxes without using a separate merger or router. Cable lengths of up to 100 metres are specified for a single connection; short, high-quality cables provide additional operational reliability.

Eight balanced XLR outputs carry signals to power amplifiers, active speakers or monitors, for example. A selector switch on the side determines which AES50 output channels are present at the XLR sockets. A personal monitoring system can also use two powered ULTRANET outputs, to which P16-M mixers can be connected directly. ULTRANET transmits 16 audio channels unidirectionally; the specified cable length is up to 75 metres. The network also supports compatible TURBOSOUND speaker systems.

For live use, the stagebox features an all-steel housing, protective bars and rack ears. Two units can be used at different positions on stage, for example, to provide additional inputs closer to the signal sources. A USB port is used to update the system via a PC. In standalone operation with a Behringer S16 or Midas DL16 as the master, the preamps can be controlled via MIDI.

With its eight inputs and outputs, the SD8 is suitable for live and studio setups with a compatible AES50 connection when connections on stage need to be brought together centrally. The CAT5e connection, XLR outputs and ULTRANET cover the signal path to FOH, speakers and personal monitor mixers.
