Product description Arturia KeyLab Essential 88
A MIDI controller with a classic playing feel and a modern control centre: The KeyLab Essential 88 combines a precise semi-weighted keyboard with 88 velocity-sensitive keys with a well-conceived control concept for working in digital music environments. Thanks to its high-quality construction and light weight, the device is suitable not only for the studio but also for mobile setups – without compromising on stability.
The control section is clearly structured, allowing you quick access to all important parameters. Nine rotary knobs, nine faders, and eight backlit pads can be assigned individually and control both virtual instruments and DAW functions. The controller integrates seamlessly with popular music software such as Ableton Live, Logic, or Cubase and, with its dedicated transport buttons, provides immediate, usable control over recording, playback, and navigation.
The included software package is more than just a bonus. Along with Analog Lab with over 6,500 professional sounds, you also receive Ableton Live Lite and a meticulously sampled UVI Grand Piano Model D – ideal for immediate creativity right out of the box. Particularly practical: Using the MIDI Control Center, you can create your own mappings and setups and save them directly to the controller.
The new keyboard mechanism creates a convincing link between expression and precision. The playing style remains pleasantly dynamic, but is also suitable for expressive piano playing. In Chord mode, chords can be triggered with the press of a single button, which is helpful both in the creative flow and in live performance situations.
Whether you are building beats, playing piano, or controlling complex arrangements – with Arturia's controller, you enhance your setup with a versatile and inspiring interface that skilfully bridges the gap between hardware and software.

Bestes MIDI-Keyboard bisher
Important questions about the article Arturia KeyLab Essential 88
Question: Can I use the KeyLab Essential 88 without a computer as a standalone keyboard?
Answer: No. It is a USB/MIDI controller without its own sound engine and requires a computer or an external MIDI setup to play sounds.
Question: What does the 88-key keyboard feel like to play?
Answer: The 88 velocity-sensitive keys are semi-weighted. This provides more resistance than a light synthesizer keyboard, but does not replace the fully weighted hammer action of a digital piano.
Question: Which DAWs can the KeyLab Essential 88 be used with?
Answer: It supports Ableton Live, Logic Pro X, Cubase, FL Studio, Bitwig, Pro Tools, Studio One and Digital Performer, among others. DAW scripts as well as the MCU and HUI protocols are available for integration.
Question: Which software is included?
Answer: Analog Lab as a download version, Ableton Live Lite and UVI Grand Piano Model D are included. Following registration, this provides sounds, a virtual piano and an entry-level DAW version right away.
Question: Can I control external MIDI hardware as well?
Answer: Yes. In addition to USB MIDI, the keyboard has a DIN MIDI out, allowing compatible external sound generators to be controlled.
Question: Is a sustain pedal included?
Answer: No, a sustain pedal is not included. The pedal input is present; a suitable pedal must be added separately for piano-style playing.
Question: What are the pads, faders and rotary controls suitable for?
Answer: The eight velocity-sensitive pads with aftertouch are suitable for drums, clips or MIDI notes. Nine faders and nine rotary controls operate DAW and instrument parameters, while the transport controls operate recording and playback.
Question: Does the keyboard help with finding chords and melodies?
Answer: Yes. Chord mode, Scale mode and the arpeggiator help with playing chords, staying in key and creating sequences; Split and Layer also allow areas and sounds to be divided.
