In 1999, the division for electronic musical instruments was spun off as Akai professional. As early as 1984, the name Akai professional was used with a slightly different logo for the division's products. The manufacturer became famous for its S/Z-series samplers, the MPC-series (MPC 3000, MPC 2000, MPC 1000, MPC 500, MPC 2500), controllers for computer-aided music production and the S/Z/Z8, which were used by many artists and are still extremely popular today.
